Inside the DataRemote Lab — Video Walkthrough

Hi, Carter Dewey, DataRemote, coming to you from beautiful, sunny Miami, Florida.

I’m here with Brianna Alvarez. She runs the DataRemote Lab and is responsible for product validation.

Now, as we’ve talked in the past, the market is moving to VoIP solutions, moving away from that old analog infrastructure.

One of the big challenges we’re facing is the legacy machine-to-machine equipment: analog data, modem data, fax machines, point of sale, and alarm.

This lab does a lot of testing and validation and use cases, and Brianna has offered to give us a little tour. So, Brianna, let’s make our way.

In the DataRemote Lab, it is our job to implement test solutions for our devices, hardware, and software applications. This is to ensure optimum quality across all of our products.

Here today, I have Bryan Arnold, our director of our automation team, and then I have Christopher Ciccotelli, our director of product validation. Each of them will go over their day-to-day operations here at the DataRemote Lab.

Bryan, can you go ahead and give us a quick overview of what your team is responsible for?

Sure, Brianna. So, here in the lab, the automation team works on several things. This would include stuff such as unit testing, UI validation, and stability monitoring.

As you can see, the wall behind me is our stability rack. We monitor things such as CPU usage, memory usage, and line registration status. We also have a notification system in place so we can keep up to date with the status of all of our testing automation scripts.

Chris, could you provide us an overview of your day-to-day operations and responsibilities in your group?

Absolutely. In the lab, we’re responsible for daily, rigorous testing. That includes fax testing with various providers; testing an array of modems, which include the U.S. Robotics 5637, the Hayes Smartmodem 2400, and many more; and alarm testing that includes communication with the alarm panels that our customers utilize, such as Contact ID, SIA, and pulse 4+2.
