How it works

Live in three steps

No new wiring, no truck rolls for diagnostics — just connect, transmit, and monitor.
1

Connect

Plug your existing analog phones, fax machines, alarm panels and elevator lines into the appliance's RJ-11 ports — no rewiring required.

2

Transmit

The appliance carries voice, FAX, DTMF and alarm signaling over a managed 5G/LTE network, with full E-911 and automatic failover.

3

Monitor

Track line status, run diagnostics and manage your whole fleet remotely through the Ara Device Management Platform.

Supported devices

One appliance, every analog endpoint

POTS IN A BOX® replaces the copper behind your most critical devices.

How we compare

POTS IN A BOX® vs. the competition

Feature-for-feature, DataRemote's POTS IN A BOX® platform outperforms ATEL, Ooma, Granite Epik, and Inseego on the criteria that matter most for MFVN-compliant analog line replacement: cellular network support, battery runtime, alarm-protocol coverage, and device management.

Where DataRemote leads

  • The only platform in this comparison with 5G cellular network support
  • The only platform certified to run multiple MFVNs on a single deployment
  • 8 RJ-11 FXS ports per appliance — double ATEL and Ooma, and at or above Granite Epik
  • The only platform with MQTT-based advanced device management
  • The only platform supporting the full range of legacy alarm and analog-modem protocols: Modem IIIa2, Modem 4, DMP, Bosch, SIA 4+2, Compass 300, Bosch RPS300/RPS1200, and Bell/V-series analog modems
  • Up to 48 hours of internal battery backup — the longest of any platform compared, and the only one with a patented UPS power output

POTS IN A BOX® frequently asked questions

What is POTS IN A BOX®?
POTS IN A BOX® is DataRemote's family of enterprise 5G/LTE appliances that replace analog copper POTS lines. Each appliance connects to your existing phones, fax machines, alarm panels, and elevator lines over RJ-11 ports and carries their signals over a managed cellular network instead of copper — no new equipment or rewiring required.
Which POTS IN A BOX® appliance is right for my site?
It depends on line count and network needs. The 90X1 (5G) and 90X2 (LTE) each support 8 lines with up to 48-hour battery backup. The VAB-1 is a plug-and-play 8-line LTE option. The CDS-9090 is a high-capacity 8-line appliance with optional Band 14 for larger or multi-tenant sites. The CDS-9010 is a compact 2-line option for small-business and retail locations.
Are POTS IN A BOX® appliances certified for fire alarm and life-safety use?
Yes. Every POTS IN A BOX® appliance is UL-864 certified for fire alarm systems and CSFM listed, in addition to carrier certifications from AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile.
How long do POTS IN A BOX® appliances run during a power outage?
Battery backup varies by model: up to 48 hours on the 90X1 and 90X2, up to 24 hours on the VAB-1 and CDS-9010, and 12 hours on the CDS-9090 — all with graceful shutdown alerts if power isn’t restored in time.
Do I need to replace my existing phones, fax machines, or alarm panels?
No. POTS IN A BOX® is a drop-in replacement for the copper line itself. Existing analog phones, fax machines, alarm panels, and elevator lines connect the same way they always have — the appliance handles the transition to cellular behind the scenes.
How does POTS IN A BOX® compare to other POTS replacement providers?
DataRemote is the only platform in independent battlecard comparisons against ATEL, Ooma, Granite Epik, and Inseego to offer 5G cellular, support for multiple MFVNs on one deployment, and a patented UPS power output — with up to 48 hours of battery backup, the longest of any platform compared.
