## How it works

Modern receiver chips track multiple constellations simultaneously, improving availability in obstructed environments.

several. The useful question is what depends on it.

Three common roles, with different requirements. **Location for E911** — which needs the
reported position to correspond to a dispatchable address, and a rooftop-accurate fix is not
the same thing as a correct floor and room. **Timing** — some deployments use GNSS as a
reference clock, in which case losing the fix degrades something other than location.
**Asset tracking or geofencing**, which matters for fleet or portable deployments and not at all
for a fixed panel.

Then ask what the fix requires physically. GNSS needs sky visibility. An appliance installed in
a basement electrical room or a metal enclosure may never acquire one, which is a common reason
an external antenna with integrated GNSS support becomes part of the bill of materials for
